Miles Away

An effort to help the environment

The Costs of Global Warming

You may not realize it, but global warming is happening every day. Think about your average day. Most days you get into a car and drive somewhere. It could be anywhere from a 10-minute drive to a 10-hour drive. An average car releases 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year.1 Now multiply that by all your family, your friends’ family, and people you don’t even know. Not to mention all of the factories that pollute a lot. All of that together is more emissions than we should be releasing. Global warming can do many things, like make temperatures warmer, melt ice glaciers, (which you can read about in one of my other blog posts), and affects animals. While it does make the world warmer, it can also mean the weather is more extreme. For example, a hurricane may be way more extreme than it already is. We may get blizzards more often than we should. Rain and wind storms can be even more powerful. You may have already noticed some of these weather conditions at your own home.

What Is Going to Happen if We Don’t Do Anything

I’ve said this before, but if you can walk/bike/scooter/etc., it is so much better than driving. But, the following is what will happen if we don’t do anything: Floods will happen more often, therefore putting some places underwater. Weather will be more extreme (Hurricanes could be even more destructive, along with other weather conditions). Temperatures will be much warmer. Lastly, polar bears and other animal species could go extinct. All of these things can happen if we don’t do something soon.

What We Can Do to Help

In order to help, the main thing is to try and prevent pollution and global warming. You can plant trees, walk to more places, donate to groups trying to stop this problem like Greenpeace, and share this blog with others so they can read it! My point here is that we need to do something, and if we don’t do something soon, the environment will suffer greatly. 🌲🌱🚴
