What You Need To Know About The Inflation Reduction Act
The Inflation Reduction Act is a new legislation that was recently passed by Democratic Senators. The act puts large amounts of money towards eco-friendly projects such as energy and climate programs, electric vehicle tax credits, helping houses become better for the environment, and helping clean-energy programs become more modern with the help of private companies. This legislation makes the goal of emitting half of the emissions that were produced in 2005 by the time it is 2030 much closer. Additionally, according to experts the act is steepening the descent in U.S. emissions greatly. The act lays out a plan of how the U.S. is going to go about preventing climate change until 2030, and the years after. Along with this plan, the act has promised to build jobs and investments for Americans near their homes. Also, companies that use clean energy get tax credits, which is a nice bonus for them.
All of these actions are so important to tackle climate change! Just having the knowledge of the fact that the amount of emissions that we created in 2005 could be cut in half by 2030 is so amazing. With this act added into all of the other projects that are constantly being done to help the environment I feel like we are coming a long way from where we were twenty years ago. That being said, we still need to keep working to continue cleaning up the earth. Even though there are still many issues that we need to deal with, I feel confident that we can overcome them, as long as we are determined and open to change.
While the Inflation Reduction Act does not lack flaws, it is a good push for the fight against climate change. After years of trying to get an act like this passed, after much trial-and-error it is great to know that change like this is here. In the meantime, though, we must remember to continue to do little things to help the environment. A few great actions we can take are using metal water bottles, reusable bags and containers, biking/walking if you can walk places, and spreading awareness of climate change. The more people that know about climate change, the more people that can join in the fight against it. In conclusion, let’s appreciate the positive changes that are being made, and continue to do our part to help our communities.

Julia-so well written! I’m curious what you think about the cap on luxury automobiles. So from what I heard on NPR, you can only receive a tax break on cars under a certain dollar value as the program is not meant for “luxury” vehicles. Seems to me that every car should qualify since any hybrid or electric car is better for the environment.
Thank you so much for the comment. Yes, I agree, the tax break should apply to all cars to make the biggest impact. However, I think that it is great that the discount is providing an opportunity for more people to afford electric cars.
